New Thinking Inking is up HERE. It is the last of the Distress Crackle Paint projects for the week. I really love this stuff. Even if you aren't into the brown-distress-look, there are great ways to use it in a colorful and clean way. It is simply about adding texture to your projects.
And I thought I would show some old projects I did with the Distress Crackle Paint, too. I have shared these before, but just in case you wanted some more examples.
This one has a video. If you watch it, you will notice that I did this before meeting my current best friend - The Foam Inking Tool from Ranger. :) So, ignore the icky foam piece I use in it...
Here is a card, also using Distress Crackle Paint...
Yes, my use of butterflies started long ago. I think it started when
Scenic Route came out with these rockin' chipboard butterflies...
Was sick there for a bit, but better today. So I have several things to link ya up to in case you missed them.
Twitter. I have to tell you all that you need to sign up for Twitter. For me, it is so much better than Facebook. (I never go on FB anymore - but my tweets just go up there automatically.) I like Twitter because people seem to share more links there than on Facebook. People link to great ideas, inspiration, etc. Also, it is so less overwhelming. If you haven't started tweeting, I would recommend it. Even if you don't want to tweet, you can follow people and learn lots. You can find me HERE. And Hero Arts just started Twitter, too! They are giving away lots of prizes there, so click HERE to find them.
Since we last talked, two different Thinking Inking classes have gone up. Both are on Ranger Paint Dabbers. However, if you have other acrylic paints, they work, too. (But the dabbers are the best. Trust me.) Click HERE for the class threads. And, did you know that you can play along and win great prizes? Check it out.
Next up... have you seen the blog week over on Hero? It is a tough challenge - using photos on cards and other projects. But I think it is a fun one. Here is a video showing how to make a fold-out card. For more information, click HERE.
I was just going through some computer files and found this card. It was one I did for the Hero Arts catalog that got changed a bit. The original is below, and the "naked" version is HERE. :) This is one big stamp. I just stamped it in green and then added color and shading with colored pencils. You Copic people could have a fun time with this image...
Well, I am off to catch up on email. If you have emailed me in the past couple weeks and haven't heard back, please send it again. With my computer dying and me getting sick, I fear I am missing lots.
Just a quick post to let you know that the next Thinking Inking video is up HERE.
Also, just an enabling FYI - 2Peas has a hugs load of Ranger goodies coming soon. If you are looking to get your hands on some, please go there to get it all. This class is free, so, as a thank you, it would be great if we all supported them back. :) Lord knows I do. Ha!
More soon. :) Oh, and all your Bachelorette folks out there - oh my! Wes? Come on!! Blech.
Today is the third and final of the Thinking Inking Distress Ink week over on 2peas. (Click HERE to see it.) Next week will be a new subject! (Hint: Your hands will be just as messy, but this time using something you used even in pre-school. :) Be sure to keep coming - this class is 9 weeks! I HIGHLY recommend reading the class threads HERE. There are many questions answered, tips given, and amazing projects shared. (Big hugs to all of you playing along!)
Here is today's video. This is one of my favorite techniques. Big thanks to Tim Holtz for inspiring it all.
I thought I would share another example and some more video links...
A bit about this card... The background is a Hero Arts woodgrain stamp stamped with Walnut Ink Distress Ink. I quickly added some gold Perfect Pearls. (This was shown in Video 2.) For the butterflies, I stamped a heart flourish a few times on ivory cardstock with embossing ink. I then heat embossed with clear powder. Following the inking tips in Video 3 (above), I pressed the embossed pieces into a variety of Distress Inks and water. The embossed area resists the ink. I then just punched out a bunch of butterflies. Easy. In fact, I normally do many pieces at once and then just punch a bunch of different shapes from it.
And a few video links...If you are interested in watercolor stamping, there is another video HERE from Hero Arts. And if you are interested in a spin on today's technique using resist (like the butterfly card above), click HERE.
OK... a quick moment of important enabling. Go. Now. And buy THIS and THIS. These are the tools you need for blending inks and playing with the many techniques we do in my class. These have FOAM, not felt. (Felt is for alcohol inks.) And these will take you one step closer to being having Tim Holtz in your hands. :) Hee. Truly. It is worth the purchase. You won't regret it. And they are in stock HERE and rumor has it they are selling fast...
More to share tomorrow. Didn't want to bore ya with too long of a post!
By the way, you still have time to win on yesterday's post. Check HERE.
You all know what a big fan I am of great crafting tools. Well, I was putting together a little mini photo album the other day (a simple design that I make often) and realized that it used many of my favorite tools. So I decided to do a video showing the creation.
This video gives a peek into the 7Gypsies Binderie, Corner Chomper and Silhouette. The mini photo book is a quick one, using Grungepaper from Tim Holtz and more. I made it for my girl who is at her grandma's and then camp. Wanted her to have some photos and notes from the family. I will explain the album more below.
Please forgive the bad photos. I apparently didn't have my camera settings right. (This is common for me. Ha.)
I really like Grungepaper or Grungeboard - they are great to use for making little books. It is flexible and durable and easily painted. Rounding the corners really adds and nice touch, and the fabulous Corner Chompers cuts through it all easily.
The pieces on this were cut with the Quickutz Silhouette. Ah... my sweet baby Silhouette. I love this guy. He cuts the most intricate shapes and makes my crafting easier. About once a week, I go and cut a ton of different shapes and designs from white cardstock. That way I have a bunch of shapes ready to go for any project. I just ink them up and get crafting. (Oh, and you can get tons of great shapes online HERE.)
Next up is the 7Gypsies Binderie tool. This tool rocks. At first, I wasn't sure I had a need for it. But once you play with it and see how awesome it works, you quickly become addicted. Basically, it punches binding holes through just about anything, with the quick touch of a button. Ahhh... so easy to use. I was excited when 7Gypsies asked me to decorate one for an artist challenge. (You can see all the other artists HERE.) It started out red and black, and here is what I did with mine...
In my video, I show a quick way to use it. But there are more thorough videos on the 7gypsies site HERE. I recommend checking them out! Oh, and this tool is fun for cardmakers, too. I like to use it to punch holes for adding ribbon, or holding several cards together for an extra special gift.
And! I get to give one of these awesome Binderie Tools away! Just leave a comment here by Saturday at 11:59pmEDT telling me what your favorite crafting tool is and I will pick a lucky winner.
The second Thinking Inking class video/project is up HERE. Lots of Distress Ink.
Here is the video...
Thanks to the many of you who are visiting the class on the Education Board over on 2peas. You can come in any time and play... no need to sign up or anything. You can even lurk, but we would love for you to participate instead!
Hey - I highly recommend you sign up to be notified when 2peas has a new video on YouTube HERE. Kristina Werner, Nichol Magouirk and many more do great videos - you wouldn't want to miss them.
Sorry for the quick post, but think I am coming down with a cold. Ken took the kids out so I could have a quiet house, and here I am feeling rough. Boo! Gonna go to bed early. But be sure to come back tomorrow - I have video, giveaway and more.
See you then!
(Oh, and Kay, if you are reading this: Happy 14th Birthday. I couldn't be more proud of you. And proud to be your Mum. I love you, admire you and adore you. Have fun at Grandma's - we miss you!)
